Hay Glorious Hay (Meadow, Timothy, Orchard, Oat etc)
Hay is the single most important part of a guinea pigs diet. It should be available 24/7 - Year round!
Never restrict access to hay in feeders/bags/balls/wheels/racks etc (we have all used one of them at some point, before we knew better) Guinea pigs are foragers, they love to eat, sleep, forage, burrow and toilet in the hay. Hay is never wasted in a guinea pig pen. The more hay the better.
Note hay is hay. Feeding hay, bedding hay, its all just hay. You want green, sweet smelling long stalks of hay. Avoid brown musty smelling hay.
Do not fall into he marketing ploys of buying more expensive hay for separate things. (feeding/bedding)
*Alfalfa hay should not be used as the main source of hay, it is extremely rich*
Hay cookies/Blox can be used as additional treats along side loose hay. They should never be used as a replacement.
Remember hay is natural product you may find thistles, stalks, leaves and sometimes mummified rodents in your hay. Welcome to nature.

Pictured below is a small selection of the dry pellet feed available in the UK for cavies. They all contain vitamin c. Also pictured are the dried grass/blox I use for my cavies as an addition to their hay.
